CNI's 9th Annual Gala
Honoree: Haven Moses, Legendary Bronco Wide ReceiverChairs: Bonnie Mandarich & Roselyn SaundersBright lights and clicking cameras greeted guests as they walked the red carpet at the Ninth Annual CNI Gala, “Dancing for a Cause”. Everyone was welcomed with a glass of champagne, and the evening of royal treatment began. Guests mingled with friends and dancers as they perused the silent auction tables and placed bids on items ranging from a signed Jake Plummer Jersey to a Chef’s Dinner for Ten provided by Elways. Honoree for the evening, former Denver Bronco Haven Moses, was introduced by his friend, Billy Thompson. Haven pondered out loud why he might have been selected for this honor and then shared with the audience the fact that he had suffered a stroke. This neurological disorder changed his life and that of his beloved wife, Joyce, and their two sons. He believes they are better individuals because of his experience and the realization that life is so precious and special, you must keep moving forward and motivate and inspire others to do the same. Haven was honored not only for his support of CNI, but his unwavering commitment to our community. (Story continues below.) Following a fabulous dinner catered by Epicurean, wine donated by Firestone Family Vineyards and a spirited live auction (which featured a Trip to Fiji donated by CNI Board member, Dr. Richard Kelley, and his wife Linda), the houselights dimmed, and the Extravaganza began! The Seawell Ballroom in the DCPA vibrated with excitement as over 450 guests enjoyed CNI’s “take” on the popular television show, “Dancing With the Stars”. Our version, entitled “Dancing for a Cause”, paired local celebrities with professional dancers from Colorado Dancesport. After many long (albeit fun-filled) hours of practice with the Dancesport instructors, our celebrities were ready to perform and perform they did! It was a spectacular and exciting event. Les Shapiro and Kim Kahman showed off some smooth moves in their “Fox Trot”; Jamie Angelich and Brooke Metcalfe dazzled the audience with her splits in their “Cha Cha” routine; Douglas Kerbs and Harmony Lyris lit up the room with their sexy “Tango”; Joyce Moses and Toby Munroe swung to the beat of a “West Coast Swing”; Janet Elway and Michael Petr wowed the crowd and the judges with their “Quick Step”; Gail Johnson and Robert Nardozza performed the “Mambo” and revived the popular dance scene from the movie “Dirty Dancing”; Troy Guard and Kim Kahman impressed everyone with their “Swing”; and Judi Wolf and Misha Belfer closed the show with a “Rhumba” danced to the sultry song, “Whatever Lola Wants.” It was indeed a night of entertainment, fashion, excitement, and fun! Guests loved the dance presentation which was expertly produced by Robert Nardozza, co-owner of Colorado Dancesport, and ohh’d and ahh’d over the costumes designed by Joey Santos of Santos Design. A heart-felt “thank you” to Bonnie Mandarich and Roselyn Saunders, co-chairs, whose inspiration, creativity and perseverance ensured the success of the evening. Our appreciation and gratitude to our title sponsors, M.D.C. Holdings/Richmond American Homes and David & Bonnie Mandarich – their generosity was the springboard for the event’s financial success for CNI. For countless hours of teaching, designing and overall hard work, CNI would like to extend a most sincere “thank you” to the staff and team from Colorado Dancesport. They are awesome! And last—but surely not least- many thanks to all our guests, sponsors, and supporters. We look forward to dancing for/with you next year!
